Discover the technique of glazing with acrylic paint during this creative mixed media workshop. You’ll learn how to use transparent layers of acrylic paint to add colour, depth and luminosity to your paintings.

We’ll work on paper, building up the image step by step using transparent acrylic paint. By applying several thin layers of paint on top of one another, you’ll create subtle colour variations, depth and surprising effects.

You’ll learn how to incorporate glazing into mixed media painting and use transparent colours to give your work greater depth and complexity. This technique is suitable for both beginners and more experienced artists, with plenty of room to experiment.

Materials

All materials are included. You’ll work on 35 × 25 cm paper and can choose from a variety of ink and acrylic paint colours.

Please bring the following items:

• Flat brush, 1.5–2 cm wide (a short handle is fine). Bring smaller brushes too if you like to work with fine details.
• An apron or old clothes
• Scissors
• Masking tape (1 cm wide) to secure your paper
• A plate covered with cling film to use as a palette
• A water container or pot, such as a yoghurt tub, to hold your brushes
• An old cloth to dry your brush
• Leaves in different sizes and shapes
• Optional: your favourite acrylic paint colours
